Sustainability and Stewardship at Bach

Overview

We are working with our state and county officials to create a comprehensive program for environmental initiatives at Bach. Some of the things we’d like to pursue include:
  • Guest Speakers
  • Field Trips
  • Earth Day Events
  • Compost Buckets in Every Classroom
  • Educational Modules
  • Updated Environmental Materials For The Library
  • A Hoop House to Winterize our Garden
  • Wildlife Habitat Projects

Composting Sponsorships

We have estimated that a composting program at Bach will divert 27,000 lbs (13.5 tons) of food waste from landfills each school year and reduce Michigan’s production of methane by 3.6 metric tons and carbon dioxide by 100 metric tons by 2030.

Aside from these desirable outcomes, this composting initiative is part of a larger effort at Bach to improve sustainability education for all students via projects, guest speakers, and field trips, and will allow students to play a hands-on role in practicing environmental stewardship.

To support composting at Bach during the school year, we will need 10 bins, along with bi-weekly pickup and implementation fees, to be funded. Opportunities to help include full-year, bi-annual, school term-based, and monthly sponsorships.

Families, local businesses, and classrooms are invited to sponsor a bin for the 2026-2027 school year!
